The critically acclaimed, surprise hit sitcom, Ugly Betty’s, second season is now available on DVD. The show and it’s all star cast return in full force with an even more satirical second season that will likely appeal to fewer viewers than the first season. Whereas the first season was tongue in cheek and witty if you were paying attention, this season makes it a point to pound you over the head with how “clever” it is, thus making it a lot less likeable and a lot more “unclever” (read as “not funny”).
In the show’s defense, the cast is superb. They do everything right it seems but it never comes even close to uniting. America Ferrara does a particularly superb job and anyone that has seen here in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants knows that that is exactly what they should expect from her. The main issue here is the writing. All the second season of this show does is spin its proverbial wheels. It goes absolutely nowhere save for the circles of riddled clichés it seems to love so much. When all is said and done, this season may find a home in your home if you were a die-hard fan of Arrested Development but, save for those few, I doubt many average TV viewers will find much to like here.
The DVD also includes a host of bonus features including a closer look at the Wilhemina Slater character, bloopers, deleted scenes, and some onset festivities. All of which are a heartier laugh than the show itself.
