The Ruins is a thriller/horror film which features 5 young adults venturing through a Mexican rainforest to find the sight of ancient Mayan ruins. Their intent is to meet up with some friends and admire the ancient architecture, but they were not ready for the thrills and chills that it would bring them. Upon arriving at the ruins, they find that the native people are not welcoming and as they begin their venture up the ruins they discover a deadly secret that the ruins hold.
This movie is a typical thriller/horror movie with many startling moments, but the special effects and acting leave much to be desired. The concept is interesting and keeps the viewers attention, however the ending is somewhat of a disappointment.
I may or may not recommend this movie, depending on the type of horror movie one is looking for. If you are in the mood for a comical horror film with plenty of things to chuckle at, then this one is for you.
