Me Hungry

Jeremy Tankard

Candlewick Press

This book explores the age old question of what should a kid do if they are hungry and their parent is too busy to help.  In this picture book a little cave boy is hungry. Dad is busy as he is breaking rocks and mom is busy as she is caring for a large group of animal skin wearing babies.  Our cave boy decides he is going to go hunting to get his own food. Along the way he meets up with different animals including a saber-tooth tiger and a wooly mammoth.  Basic words create a humorous story.

The illustrations in this book are what attracted me to it at first.  Tankard’s illustrations are unique and eye-catching. This little boy is going to hunt and is met with mixed success. The words on each page are VERY basic, but it is part of what I liked in this book.  The first page reads, “Me hungry!” and his dad says, “Me busy!”.  This is a cute book for a young child.  I would recommend this book for children 2-5.  I really enjoyed it.
