In the 60’s Beatlemania hit the U.S. and nearly 40 years later tweens across the country experienced another hype that took the United States by storm and it is in the form of Miley-mania. Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus is arguably the most recognized person in Tweendom as her wildly popular Disney TV show, her outrageously successful U.S. tour (with parents paying close to $1000 for their children to attend), and her face has been plastered all over the television and nationwide department and Tween girl chain stores. No matter what you may think of Miley Cyrus is one successful young lady and her parents have done a great job marketing her. Aside from that I feel she is a pretty level headed gal and her family is and has tried to help her to have as normal (at least as normal as you can get) considering her circumstances.
In response to the hype of the Cyrus’s sold out tour in early 2008 Disney Pictures released it’s first Hannah Montana large screen release “The Best of Both Worlds: The 3-D Movie” in iMax’s and theaters around the world. This movie was aimed for those young girls who were not privileged enough to see Montana live in concert. The goal was to make this movie so the viewer could almost feel like they were at the actual concert. At $10 a pop, this made it much more affordable for the young attendee.
In August of 2008 Disney has released “The Best of Both World” on DVD to the public in a two disc extended edition. The discs feature Montana/Cyrus’s concert in both 3-D and 2-D. I personally wanted to see how well the 3-D came through so I watched that version. Aside from the annoyingly glasses, (next to the Muppets 3-D show at Disney World) this is probably one of the best 3-D shows I have seen. The cinematography is crystal clear, the sound is spectacular and the performance of Cyrus and her entourage is top notch. This 2 disc set features Cyrus hits “The Best of Both Worlds”, “Girls Night Out”, and “Start All Over”. It also features Montana songs, “Rock Star”, “I Got Nerve” and “We Got The Party” featuring the Jonas Brothers. There is also some live footage of The Jonas Brothers performing their hits as well.
The bonus feature “The Ultimate Personal Tour” with Miley taking the viewer through a day in the life behind the scenes before a show is a great addition to the DVD. Other features include music videos, and an option to sing along with the DVD Karaoke style. Overall, I was very impressed with this DVD and I know my daughter will watch it over and over again. I enjoyed watching “Best of Both Worlds: The 3-D Movie” very much and I would recommend it to anyone with a tween in their household.
