Some of my fondest memories as a young boy was watching Fat Albert on Saturday mornings. I would anticipate every Saturday to see what kind of mischief those zany Cosby Kids would find themselves in. So when I received Fat Albert’s Halloween Special for review I had a flood of childhood memories come back to me as I watched this delightful holiday DVD with my own children.
Fat Albert’s Halloween Special has Albert and the gang preparing for what they hope to be the best and scariest Halloween’s ever. They all create their own homemade costumes and find the largest containers to hold, what they hope, and their overflow of candy from the neighborhood. However this year Rudy’s and his friend Devery have devised a plan to wreak havoc and put a fright into the “old people” in their neighborhood, including Mud Foot and old Mrs. Bakewell. Things don’t go as planned as the gang has the tables turned on them as they are kicked out of the movie theater; have their candy swiped from ole Mud Foot, and find that Mrs. Bakewell isn’t the ole witch they thought she was.
Fat Albert is one of those timeless shows that I believe was ahead of its time. The premise behind every show had a moral value to it whether it be the dangers of smoking or as in the case of this Halloween special the value of respecting your elders and not judging them just because they are old. Included on this DVD are two bonus episodes “The Prankster” and “The Jinx”. Whether you were a fan of this show in the seventies or you are a parent today this DVD is good ole fashioned wholesome fun for the whole family. This DVD would be a great addition to any family movie collection.
