Eli Stone is one of many new series that ABC released in the Fall of 2007. This series was met was much critical praise and has since been renewed for a second season during 2008- 2009. The fact that this show survived the strike era of the last year says a lot about this show, as the big studios “axed” a number of shows during this time because they were not drawing the numbers they would have liked. But then again it is hard not to like Eli Stone as it is a unique concept with a great storyline.
Eli Stone is a high profile lawyer who is suffering from an inoperable brain aneurism. For most people this would end a career, but not for Eli. You see as a result of his condition Stone has visions and he quickly realizes that some of these visions are a sign and others are prophecies. What makes these visions unique is the fact that they all have one common denominator… George Michaels. Huh? Each time he has a vision they are based around a George Michaels song. Sometimes these visions include George himself shows up and other times they appear as Broadway musical style performances. Confused by these odd visions Eli consults an acupuncturist named Dr. Chen who tries to help him sort out and make sense of these visions. Many episodes deal with controversial topics like autism, abstinence only sex education, steroids in sports, and many others.
Personally I really enjoyed Eli Stone: The Complete First Season and I look forward to the second season. However there are some issues and conclusions the show makes that I do not agree with, but I don’t feel as though they are intended to promote a hidden agenda either. It is what it is and that’s what makes this show great. There are many extra’s which include deleted scenes, bloopers, a few shorts and many more. If you did not have a chance to catch this series on TV last year, I would highly suggest you check the show out. It’s fun, it’s quirky and intelligent and this formula always makes for an enjoyable TV show.
