The Dangerous Days of Daniel X

James Patterson & Michael Ledwidge

Little, Brown and Company

This is the latest young adult novel from the non-stop pen of James Patterson.  This man is truly a man of many talents.  In one novel he can write a thrilling murder mystery page turner, in another he can be writing a feel good summer love novel and in yet another write about a teenage alien boy who has powers to hunt down alien assassins.  Diverse is a great word to describe the writing talents of Mr. Patterson and he proves this with his book The Dangerous Days of Daniel X.

Daniel has been on his own since his parents were brutally murdered at the tender age of three.  It may seem harsh to believe that a three year old could take of himself, but it’s not so hard when you have special abilities that allow you to manipulate things, and give you the power to hunt down renegade alien assassins who were responsible for your parents death.  You see Daniel is not from this world, he comes from a planet called Alpar Nok.  Since his parents death Daniel has been hunting aliens and facing near death situations a number of times.  His parents died protecting the list of aliens that were to be destroyed.  Now Daniel has inherited this list and this has made him a marked man (or teenager).  In this account Daniel is setting out to capture number 6 on the list.  His name is Ergent Seth and he abducts children, however this is only part of the evil the creature is capable of.  In his quest to capture Ergent Seth is taken captive and brought back to the place where he was born and shown the devastation Seth has brought to his planet.  Can Daniel accomplish what he has set out to do or will he meet the same fate his parents met twelve years earlier?  Well, my friend, you’ll have to read for yourself.

The Dangerous Days of Daniel X is a fun book from start to finish.  There is enough light heartedness and humor to make this book enjoyable and humorous yet there is enough suspense and tension to keep the reader wanting to read more.  I am assuming this is the first book in a series of books that will highlight Daniel X.  If this is the case then this inaugural book is a great introduction to a story that is well thought out and entertaining for people of all ages.
