“Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name.” These were the words to the opening song of the TV show that filled living rooms across the country for 11 years. Cheers was one of the longer running sitcoms of the eighties and in fact did become a place where everybody knew its name. For 11 years Sam, Carla, Norm, Cliffy and gang made America laugh as this simple concept for a show took the country by storm. Whether it was dealing with the on again off again relationship of Sam and Diane, or Cliff spouting off his barrage of useless information to the always expected “NORM!” when ever George Wendt’s character entered the bar all made this show so appealing.
Recently CBS DVD/Paramount Home Entertainment released season ten of this eleven season series. The series opens with Sam and Rebecca both desiring to become parents and their decision to have/make a child together. Other episodes have Sam, Cliff, Norm and Frasier all setting off to Disney Land only to find themselves stranded on Route 66. Another one has Norm on the couch at Frasier and Lilith’s home with a slipped disc and since he can’t go to Cheers, the guys decide to bring Cheers to him.
All in all Season 10 is a great collection but also has the symptoms of a show that is in decline. I personally enjoyed the earlier seasons and understand that a show cannot stay on the top forever. However I don’t feel that Cheers Season 10 is a disappointment either, it is still entertaining with good laughs in each episode. I would certainly recommend this DVD to anyone who has been collecting the series (I think that goes without saying). Although I personally wouldn’t suggest this be the first DVD to purchase if you are just looking to get a season.
