Caroline In The City

The First Season

Paramount Home Entertainment

When one thinks of Lea Thompson you can’t help but think equate her with the Back To The Future trilogy.  One spot in her career that is often overlooked is her sitcom series called Caroline In The City.  Caroline Duffy is a comic strip artist who writes and draws the weekly comic strip “Caroline In The City”.  This show is based around Caroline and her friends’ calamities, relational problems and hardships. The show revolves around Caroline, her best friend Annie, ex-boyfriend and sarcastic and down and out artist Richard.

Caroline In The City:  The First Season contains 24 episodes on three DVDs with nearly nine hours of footage and special features.  Episodes include the pilot episode that introduces America to the zany and quirky world of Caroline and her world.  Other episodes include “Caroline and the Bad Back” where her Del (her ex-boyfriend) and Richard need to finish the strip as Caroline is out with a bad back.  Among other noteworthy episodes include “Caroline and The 28 lb. Walleye”, “Caroline and the Bad Date” and “Caroline and Richard’s Mom”.  The first season also includes guest appearances from David Hyde Pierce, Matthew Perry, Florence Henderson, Kathy Griffin and John Ratzanberger.

Overall, Caroline and The City was a fun show and unfortunately had a short run of only four seasons.  Personally I would have liked to see more extra’s on this DVD set like outtakes, bloopers, and episode commentaries.  Instead we are only given a time wasting Episodic Promos as our special features.  I would recommend this DVD set to anyone who enjoyed television sitcoms from the 90’s or the more obscure shows of this era.
