Bigger, Stronger, Faster

Magnolia Pictures

Bigger, Stronger, Faster is the latest documentary offering from the producers of Bowling For Columbine and Fahrenheit 9/11.While that made me slightly nervous going into this, the documentary quickly separates itself from the prior releases with a more at ease feel. The focus here is primarily on the use of steroids throughout sports and whether or not they are actually harmful to those who take them. The focus is also placed largely on the experiences of the brothers Bell, two of whom were professional wrestlers and one a college football starter, while all three competed nationally in bodybuilding competitions.

The premise and the delivery here are both fascinating. Are steroids actually harmful? Does their use affect everyone the same way? The “experts” here argue that they are necessary for competition and that almost every major sports figure has or does use them. The narrator makes a compelling argument through interviews and major network news footage that there is, in fact, a conspiracy to keep steroids illegal, despite the fact that they have been proven many times over as a healer.

I loved this documentary. Of course, as I do with any documentary, it has to all be taken with a grain of salt but I really felt like this was a normal, everyday, Joe compiling his own research and I connected to it in that way. I highly suggest  checking this out if you are looking for a challenging, interesting rental or purchase.
