Annie and Simon

Annie is a very young girl who has a much older brother Simon.  There are four stories in this book. In each story Annie explores the world in the way a preschooler/maybe kindergartener might explore. Simon accompanies Annie along in her journey. He is always patient, loving, gentle, understanding. In “The Loon Hunt” Annie and Simon are going in a canoe to look around the lake for loons. Simon constantly reminds Annie to sit in the middle of the boat. Of course Annie tips it and Simon lovingly picks her up and collects their things and in the end they of course see a loon.

I think this book is filled with lovely stories about the love between a brother and a sister. As I finished the book I wished I had had a brother like Simon.  The four stories are believable and relevant stories for children.  I really enjoyed this book.  When we were done reading my five year old son asked if there were anymore Annie and Simon books.  That is the sign of a great book, when it leaves you wanting more.  I would recommend this book for four year olds and up.  It is a great book for a young independent reader and it is also great for a read along with a younger child.
