Andy Shane and Dolores Starbuckle return in the latest book by Jennifer Richard Jacobson.  Andy Shane and Dolores are in class together and they have both chosen Egypt as their country for their Africa Report. They both have their very specific reasons for picking Egypt. Andy’s Egyptian pick is honored by the teacher who just says, “…we’ll work this out later.” That is when the pressure begins to build on Andy Shane. Should he or should he not team up with Dolores to complete the African project.

I have to admit I had not heard of Andy Shane prior to this book. It is a great little chapter book. It is easily read in one sitting, but for younger children who like chapter books it is perfect. It feels grown up without having the length.  My five year old was captivated by this story about how a boy could successfully deal with a strong willed girl.  For beginning independent readers they can experience success with a book that is interesting enough to grasp their attention.  I think it is a great book. We have since checked out another Andy Shane book from the library.  I would recommend it for kindergarten and up.
