Glen Close, Jeff Daniels, Joely Richardson and 100’s of Dalmatians have teamed up with Disney to bring the beloved 1961 Disney animated Classic 101 Dalmatians to “real life”. Close does a fantastic job of portraying the evil and sinister Cruella De Vil who is kidnaps Roger and Anita’s 15 Dalmatians and 86 others in the surrounding London area to make a real Dalmatian fur coat. DeVil convinces the menacing Jasper and Horace to capture the 101 Dalmatians but the loveable cast of spotted pups conspire together to outwit these obtuse minions.
Directed by John Hughes (Home Alone) 101 Dalmatians has the same “feel” as the Home Alone franchise complete with outrageous antics and “Bathroom humor” that made this series famous. Hughes does a decent job of staying fairly true to the original storyline but giving it a modern twist. For example Roger is a video game designer instead of a jingle writer. Anita is a modern woman who has a career in the fashion industry instead of being a stay home wife. My elementary aged children loved this show as this is the targeted age group. I would suggest this movie for any family with children between the ages of 6 to 10 years old. This is good ole fun for the whole family and will be loved by people of all ages.
